When assessing the work of a system, the most important thing is to look at what has changed in the way it functions, what conditions have been created and what results it produces. This is particularly true in football, where one decision or one match cannot be the sole measure of the quality of the entire system.<\/p>\n

Over the past nearly two years, the Football Federation of Macedonia has made significant changes in the area of match officials, with a clear objective: establishing higher standards, clearer criteria, greater competition, better working conditions, education and objective monitoring of performance.<\/p>\n

The process covers referees, assistant referees, match delegates, referee observers, the fitness department and educators. The aim is to create a system in which progress is directly linked to quality, knowledge, physical fitness and continuity in the work.<\/p>\n

Technology and an individual approach<\/strong><\/p>\n

Technology is an important instrument in this process. FFM has implemented a modern VAR centre, introduced new equipment and communication systems, while Garmin equipment enables continuous monitoring of referees\u2019 training and physical workload.<\/p>\n

The next step is the introduction of the VALD Performance system, which will raise physical preparation to an even higher level. Instead of focusing solely on meeting fitness-test standards, it enables individual profiling through the measurement of strength, explosiveness, neuromuscular abilities and potential asymmetries.<\/p>\n

The essence of the modern approach is not merely to determine whether a referee is prepared, but to know how they can be even better prepared.<\/p>\n

Greater competition and a clear path to advancement<\/strong><\/p>\n

After more than a decade, separate referee lists have been established for the First and Second MFL. This is not merely an administrative change, but a step towards a clearer structure and greater competition, in which a place on the list is confirmed through quality, knowledge and continuity.<\/p>\n

The same logic has been applied to match delegates, while in futsal, referee observers have been introduced for the first time\u2014a mechanism that enables a professional and independent assessment of the work of match officials.<\/p>\n

Special emphasis has also been placed on the development of young referees. After almost 20 years, a special seminar for young and talented referees from the regional leagues was organised once again, with the aim of identifying potential earlier, monitoring it systematically and developing it gradually. Some of the participants have already been promoted to the Second MFL lists.<\/p>\n

Results confirmed beyond Macedonia<\/strong><\/p>\n

The changes to the system and working conditions have also been accompanied by concrete results at international level.<\/p>\n

In less than two years, FFM gained two additional places on the FIFA list for assistant referees, with a realistic possibility of an additional place for a referee. For the first time, we also had a Macedonian VAR referee officiate in a European match.<\/p>\n

The number of international referee observers increased from two to five, while the number of UEFA match delegates rose from four to five. This represents a significant increase in the presence of Macedonian match officials on the FIFA and UEFA lists.<\/p>\n

For the first time, we also have a Macedonian match official in a leading position at UEFA, responsible for the physical preparation of elite referees, as well as an official serving as a competition operations director and UEFA match security officer.<\/p>\n

It is particularly significant that, during the recent period, a large number of assistant referees from the First MFL were given the opportunity to be part of European matches. Previously, this was a very rare opportunity.<\/p>\n

That experience cannot be fully simulated in an education room. An international match means a different intensity, different styles of play, a different atmosphere and new demands. All of this creates experience that is then brought back to the domestic championship.<\/p>\n

And that is how the system grows.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The quality our match officials demonstrate every weekend in domestic matches is their opportunity and recommendation for appearances on the European stage. Successful representation in UEFA competitions is not only an affirmation of their names, but also confirmation of the quality of Macedonian football as a whole.<\/p>\n

The names of those who achieved that success are well known to the football public. But the essence is not individual promotion, rather the recognition of the systemic progress behind every such step forward.<\/p>\n

Of course, the success belongs primarily to them, to their talent, work and discipline. But every individual success also has broader value, because behind it there must be a system that knows how to recognize potential, develop it and create the conditions for that quality to have the opportunity to prove itself on the European stage as well.<\/p>\n

The first and only recognition of its kind for Macedonian refereeing<\/strong><\/p>\n

A key recognition of the progress achieved was the official visit of UEFA Chief Refereeing Officer Roberto Rosetti to FFM and the Referees' Organization.<\/p>\n

It was the first, and at the same time the only, visit by a UEFA chief refereeing officer to Macedonia since FFM became a member of the European football organization.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This fact carries particular weight. Such visits are not accidental and are not merely part of the usual protocol. They indicate that the work, changes and development of the system have been recognized beyond our borders as well.<\/p>\n

Roberto Rosetti's visit should therefore not be viewed merely as an important event in itself, but as recognition that the Macedonian refereeing organization is part of a process that is visible at the European level as well.<\/p>\n

Standards must become the rule<\/strong><\/p>\n

None of this means that the system is complete or that there is no room for improvement. On the contrary, the results achieved create an even greater obligation for standards to be higher.<\/p>\n

Better organization and technical capacities should lead to better preparation. Greater competition should lead to better performances. Education should translate into higher-quality decision-making on the pitch.<\/p>\n

That is why progress should not be measured only by the number of new equipment items, new lists or international appointments. The true value lies in whether those investments create a better process, greater competition, open the way for new referees and, ultimately, result in a higher quality of competition.<\/p>\n

In that sense, the facts are the best measure.<\/p>\n

New conditions have been created. New standards have been introduced. New opportunities have been opened. Some of the results have already been confirmed at the international level.<\/p>\n

The next step is for those standards to become the rule, not the exception. The goal is not to prove that the system is perfect. The goal is for each successive season to be better than the previous one.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
