The Macedonia Under-15 national team (2011 generation) took part in the World Championship in the 7+1 competition from 22 October to 1 November, hosted by the Azerbaijani capital Baku. Head coach Goran Stankovski assessed the national team\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am happy that we are the first national team to take part in a World Championship, where we made a notable appearance, and I am satisfied with what we achieved. In ten matches, we recorded six wins, one draw and three defeats. Unfortunately, we were not very lucky with the draw because we faced exceptionally tough opponents, who were primarily physically superior. On the other hand, from the very first match we showed that we could stand up to teams like these, above all the strongest team in our group, Panama, whom we defeated 4:1. Unfortunately, after that match we had problems with player injuries, and until the end of the first phase we were constantly missing three or four players. That is precisely why it is difficult to endure a series of matches played at a high intensity and maintain your level. I am very grateful to the players who carried the main burden, who were practically forced to play much more because we did not have the opportunity to rotate the squad, but that was not a reason for us not to play well in the duels with truly strong opponents,\u201d said Stankovski.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

How much did the matches in this format help the footballers gain additional experience playing on the international stage?<\/p>\n

\u201cTaking part in this tournament is hugely important for all the footballers in terms of gaining essential international experience. First and foremost, it is good that they had the opportunity to see that we can be on an equal footing with all opponents, because before leaving for Azerbaijan there was a visible degree of fear among them about what awaited them at this championship. From match to match, they became aware that they have the quality to play against all teams, to be equal to them and even better, and this is huge experience for them at the beginning of their careers,\u201d the head coach continued.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The national team will continue working until the end of the year, and in the coming period they will face demanding training sessions and assessments of their current form.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter returning from Azerbaijan, we are continuing with our activities. We will train in Skopje and are planning new friendly matches. Our first matches in the continuation will be the games against Montenegro; in spring, we will take part in a UEFA development tournament, and everything will conclude with our participation in the European Championship qualifiers,\u201d said Stankovski.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A large number of matches have been played and many training sessions held during the past period, and judging by everything that has been shown, it seems that Macedonia has no need to worry about its footballing future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many talented footballers in this generation, and their progress can be seen from match to match.
