Kirovski Vasil – Jerry took his first football steps as a player for FC MIG, today's FC Skopje, where he played until he was 21. His love for football and his sense of the game directed him towards a new challenge – the refereeing profession.
Together with his teammate and later colleague, football player and federal referee Risto Bundalevski, he applied to be a referee in the generation recruited by Gjoko Simonovski - Kinez and Atanas Petrovski - Toska, who at that time were considered some of the best theorists and experts on football rules in Macedonia.
His refereeing career has seen a rapid and steady rise. Passing through all competitive ranks – from sub-federal leagues, through interregional competitions, to the Second and First Yugoslav Federal Leagues, where Jerry was counted among the most respected referees of his generation.
Particularly memorable is the derby match he refereed in Split in 1989, between the teams of the big four of Yugoslav football – Hajduk and Red Star (2:1), a match that remained memorable even after the major riots that occurred after its end.
After Macedonia gained independence, he continued to referee actively and became one of the leading referees in the First Macedonian Football League. Even after the end of his rich refereeing career, he remained dedicated to football, as a referee controller, recruiter and mentor to the new generations, passing on his experience and love of refereeing to them.
He will be remembered as a man on the field, but even more as a man who lived for football and refereeing. A passion that continues to live on through his sons, Marjan Kirovski, a former long-time FIFA assistant referee and current Republic Referee Instructor, and Hristijan Kirovski, a former Macedonian national team player and current coach.
With his expertise and dedication, Kirovski Vasil - Dzheri left a lasting mark on Macedonian football and the refereeing organization. The Football Federation of Macedonia expresses its sincere condolences to the Kirovski family.
