Macedonia U-16 beaten by Montenegro on penalties at the „Miljan Miljanić“ tournament“

The Macedonia U-16 national team lost to Montenegro on penalties in the opening match of the „Miljan Miljanić“ tournament in Serbia. The two teams played out a 2:2 draw in regular time, while the opponents celebrated victory after the penalty shootout (2:4).

Our promising national team had an excellent chance to open the scoring in the very first minute. Veleski failed to convert a one-on-one situation with the opposing goalkeeper. In the 15th minute, we once again failed to take a gilt-edged opportunity to take the lead. Krstevski played Veleski through brilliantly, but Montenegro’s goalkeeper was successful once again.

In the 19th minute, Nikola Vukoje gave Montenegro the lead, but just four minutes later, Marin Krstevski equalised at 1:1 after a solo run.

In the 51st minute, Luka Vušurović put Montenegro back in front, while Krstevski and Polimac missed an excellent chance to equalise in the 79th minute. However, Mihajlo Pavlov scored from the penalty spot in the 87th minute to make it 2:2.

Montenegro’s players were more successful in the penalty shootout, winning 4:2.
