History of football in Macedonia
• The beginnings of the game of football in Macedonia date back to the 19th century;
• The first official match was played on April 20, 1919 between the English army selection and a youth team from Skopje;
• In honor of that match and as a memorial to it, as well as on the occasion of 70 years of football in Macedonia, a monument was erected in 1978;
• "Vardar" from Skopje was the first registered football club in 1912;
• During World War II, the Macedonian club team played against the German and Bulgarian army teams. Many Macedonian players were also part of the Bulgarian national team;
• In 1945, immediately after the end of World War II, the first football section was formed in the Skopje Sports Association, under the presidency of Gustav Vlahov. The football section was separated on 16 August 1948 and the Football Association of Macedonia was formed on 14 August 1949, as part of the Football Association of Yugoslavia;
• On February 7, 1993, the Football Association of Macedonia organized its first independent assembly;
• In 1994, Macedonia became a full member of FIFA and UEFA;
• In 2003, the Football Association of Macedonia was renamed the Football Federation of Macedonia – FFM.
