The reigning champions Vardar are ready for the challenge and hope to achieve a positive result in the big derby against leaders Shkëndija. These two teams, along with Struga Trim & Lum, are contenders for the title, which is why their head-to-head matches carry special significance.
Experienced David Babunski, one of Vardar’s playmakers, is aware of that and conveys the optimism prevailing in Miodrag Božović’s team.
„We are aware of the significance of this match, we prepared well and expect a fierce duel that will be decided by nuances and the smallest details. We have put together a good run and expect this positive momentum to continue in the derby against Shkëndija. We will play in Gostivar this time; both teams are truly among the best in the country, we have mutual respect and I believe we will offer attractive football. We want three points, and we will do everything to achieve our objective,“ says David Babunski.
Vardar’s last away triumph against Shkëndija dates back one year, taking place on 27 October 2025, and the scorer in that match in Tetovo was none other than David Babunski from the penalty spot.
„I still have vivid memories of that match. Vardar had not won away against Shkëndija for a long time; we played bravely and managed to celebrate. The squads have changed partially since then, but there are also individuals who played in that match. In any case, this will be a new episode in the derby encounters with Shkëndija, and we are travelling with great optimism and confidence,“ said Vardar’s playmaker.
The derby between Shkëndija and Vardar is scheduled for today at 14:00 at the City Stadium in Gostivar, with Stojanče Trpčevski appointed as referee.
