In their final appearance in this World Cup qualifying cycle, the Macedonia women's national team lost 3:1 to Azerbaijan.
The match, played at the Petar Miloshevski Stadium in Bitola, was decided in the first half, when all four goals were scored.
The visitors took the lead in the eighth minute when Kristina Bakarandze beat Viktorija Panchurova, who made her final appearance in the Macedonia national team jersey tonight.
Just three minutes later, Hava Mustafa scored to level the result at 1:1.
In the 28th minute, Mana Moliayeva scored to give Azerbaijan a 2:1 lead, while in the 37th minute Nigar Mirzaliyeva made it 3:1.
As the match progressed, the side coached by head coach Aleksandar Andov took the initiative and were the better team in the early stages of the second half, but unfortunately they were unable to convert several chances into goals.
The nets remained untouched at both ends until the end of the match, with neither team creating any serious chances to score.
In the other match in our group, Hungary triumphed 6:1 over Andorra and confirmed top spot in the standings.
At the end of the qualifiers, Hungary collected 16 points and advanced to the next stage, while Azerbaijan finished second with 12 points but failed to rank among the two best runners-up from League C.
In this cycle, Macedonia finished third in the group with six points, earned through victories over Andorra.
Tonight's match was the final one for goalkeeper Panchurova with the national team, as she has retired from international football, but she will continue to wear the Tiverija Brera jersey.
