The domestic championship is entering its final stretch, with the 31st round kicking off today.
League leaders Vardar, with 74 points to their name, welcome Sileks to the Arena this afternoon and have the first match point in their hands for winning the championship title.
If the „red and blacks“ win, while second-placed Shkendija fail to triumph at home against Struga Trim Lum in a match being played at the same time, at 16:00, Vardar will lift the trophy and become the new champions of Macedonia.
Even if they do not win, that is, if Vardar draw, while Struga TL defeat Shkendija, Vardar will still be the best team this season.
However, „the calculations“ are not on the minds of Goce Sedloski’s chosen players; quite the opposite. Everything is focused on playing another good match in a row and winning all three points. Whether those points will also mean the title this weekend, or whether the title race will continue until the next match, is a completely different matter.
Vardar have four consecutive wins in the domestic championship and have gone six rounds without defeat. The points gap over Shkendija is six points, which of course gives them a huge advantage in the battle for the title, but it is by no means over. A slip-up today and failure to collect all three points would mean additional pressure in the championship’s final two stages, in which Vardar will first visit Struga TL on May 17 and then, in the final round, welcome the still reigning champions, Shkendija, to the Arena on May 23.
