Shkëndija won the first derby against Vardar this season after defeating the reigning champions 0-2 at the Todor Proeski National Arena in Skopje. Fabrice Tamba, who came on at the start of the second half, scored twice, in the 52nd and 77th minutes.
Artim Položani managed to outwit Kristijan Fabijani, while Shkëndija were a class better based on their performance in the derby clash.
Vardar had the first opportunity in the 12th minute, when Castañeda shot from 20 metres, but was not accurate. Just a minute later, Puleio had a much better chance, shooting powerfully from 12 metres, but he was also inaccurate.
In the 16th minute, Gerson Rodrigues headed towards goal, but directly at Shkëndija goalkeeper Ferat Ramani. Before the end of the first half, Besart Ibraimi tried with a shot from 18 metres, which Davor Taleski managed to save.
In the final moments of the first half, Boban Nikolov tried from a free kick 25 metres out, but was not accurate.
In the 49th minute, Shkëndija had a chance to take the lead. Krueziu launched a quick attack and shot from 14 metres, but his effort was blocked at the last moment and went out for a corner.
Trumçi then tried from the right side, but was not accurate enough. That proved to be a warning ahead of Shkëndija's opening goal in the 52nd minute. Fabrice Tamba, who had been given a chance at the start of the second half, opened the scoring after being excellently set up by Nzengue.
Vardar could have responded just two minutes later. Pireš broke down the left, shooting from an angle, but Ramani managed to save.
In the 73rd minute, Krieziu missed a colossal chance. Set up by Krasniqi, he found himself one-on-one with Davor Taleski, went for a dribble and made a mistake, taking the ball out for a goal kick.
In the 77th minute, Fabrice Tamba doubled Shkëndija's lead. Vardar's failed offside trap allowed Tamba to go one-on-one with Davor Taleski, and he found the net with a lob.
After the match, a physical altercation also took place on the pitch involving a larger number of players and officials.
