The reigning champions Vardar made a poor start to the new Macedonian league season. They suffered two defeats in the first three rounds and were left without points in both clashes against the title contenders, Shkëndija and Struga Trim Lum.
Taking into account the European elimination by Riga as well, Vardar are on a run of three consecutive defeats, a negative streak they have not experienced for a very long time.
From that perspective, today's match against Sileks is very important for the „red and blacks“. Quite simply, they must win to end the poor run, but they will also have to cope with the pressure this match brings—that the three points must be won.
The atmosphere in the team is not at its highest level; the defeats have taken their toll, and disciplinary issues have also emerged at the club involving certain players. Matija Mirkov and Hristijan Kirovski, who have been in charge since Argentine coach Cristian Fabiani departed, must deal with all of this.
Over the past week, Vardar have been focused on their work, trying to keep a low profile and overcome their problems through training while preparing for the new clash with Sileks. Everyone is waiting to see whether the champions will finally put in a champion's performance.
