Vardar remained top of the top-flight standings after securing a 5:1 victory over city rivals Makedonija GP today at the Todor Proeski Arena in Skopje.
The start of the match, as was the case for most of it, was dominated by Vardar. Zakarić, Castaneda and Matić missed clear-cut chances to take the lead before Torres shot in the 31st minute, Jankov made the save, and the ball fell to Darko Velkovski, who was accurate to make it 1:0.
Kabarcas's two reckless yellow cards in quick succession left Makedonija GP with ten players early in the match, after which Diego Castaneda increased the lead to 2:0 before half-time in the 42nd minute with a solo run and a shot from the right.
In the second half, Ali Adem had a chance to reduce the deficit to 2:1 in the 53rd minute, but his one-on-one opportunity against Davor Taleski went in the Vardar goalkeeper's favour.
The Argentinian Torres punished that in the 61st minute, finishing a good move from the left, before Boban Nikolov, after bringing an excellent ball under control on his chest, scored with a half-volley in the 69th minute to make it 4:0.
Ivan Galevski reduced the deficit to 4:1 in the 71st minute, capitalising on an error by the home side's central defence.
One of the most beautiful goals seen at the Arena in recent times was scored in the 75th minute. Torres dribbled past several Makedonija GP players, went through one-on-one with Jankov and had no trouble finding his name on the scoresheet.
