Macedonia’s senior national team will open the new League B campaign at home against Switzerland on Saturday, 26 September. Following the match in Skopje, Goce Sedloski’s players will face three more matches in a short period: away to Slovenia on 29 September, at home against Scotland on 3 October, and the second match against Switzerland on 6 October in Lucerne.
For Gjorgje Djekov, the upcoming period holds special significance. The young footballer has been called up to the senior national team for the first time and is highly motivated ahead of his national-team debut.
„It is an honour and a pleasure to be part of our senior national team for the first time. We know what kind of opponent we will face on Saturday. Switzerland are an excellent national team, World Cup quarter-finalists, with many high-quality players,“ says Djekov.
The Macedonian international expects a difficult match, but believes that maximum commitment and disciplined play can lead to a positive result.
„It is up to us to meet the expectations of the coaching staff and give our maximum on the pitch. In my opinion, the key factors will be defence, aggression and our approach to the game, in order to achieve a positive result against Switzerland, as well as against the other teams,“ Djekov emphasises.
The first challenge awaits on Saturday at the Todor Proeski National Arena in Skopje, where Macedonia will have the opportunity to make a strong start to its campaign in the new Nations League cycle with a good result.
